Counseling ABQ

Who We Are

Counseling ABQ is a group of skilled therapists providing services to individuals, couples, and families.  We believe in the healing power of emotional engagement and relationships to create change.

Our therapists offer empathy, authenticity, and expert insight.  Our focus is your well-being.  We provide a safe and supportive environment for you to continue along your path toward self-fulfillment.  Regardless of the issue you’re facing today, with help and support, you can be empowered to grow and thrive.

We know that healing happens in connection with others.  In the context of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, you can take steps to deepen your connection with yourself and others and towards living a more fulfilling life.  We each bring our own unique background, training, and style to sessions; we all aim to provide evidence-based therapy to the people we work with.

Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling

A good therapeutic relationship has the following essential qualities:

  • An emotional bond of trust, caring, and respect
  • Agreement on the goals of therapy
  • Collaboration on the work of the treatment

The relationship you have with your counselor is much like other relationships. If you meet someone who is fake or withholds their emotions, you will not open up to them. When your therapist is authentic, you see them as the human they are. They make mistakes, fail, and succeed. They will not tell you everything about them because this is your therapy, meant to focus on you. But they are going to be honest with their thoughts and feelings.

This leads to a real relationship where you can share and start healing.

During the intake, we always do our best to match you with a therapist we feel would be a good fit for you. If you’ve seen your therapist two or three times and don’t feel comfortable sharing your feelings or feel like the sessions are productive, talk to the therapist.

This is an act of courage because although we will tell you a therapist will not take it personally, this kind of honesty is difficult. And if it’s tough for you, we understand. Sometimes, things are too far out of our comfort zone, and we can’t do it. Just call our office (505-209-2442) and tell them what you’re looking for in a therapist.  The Clinical Administrator will be contacted to make certain that your needs are met.
