Frequently Asked Questions About Couple’s Counseling

Couple's therapy involves communication; however, having a partner who tends to be quiet or introverted is not unusual. The fact that he or she has committed to attending counseling sessions and improving the relationship is what is needed for counseling to be beneficial.
As you're probably already aware, you cannot force your partner to do something he or she does not want to do. And even if you could, he or she would probably be resentful, and there would be a negative outcome. However, attending counseling by yourself in order to improve your relationship can still be very helpful. Sometimes, your partner will join the sessions later. And what you learn in sessions can be taken back into the relationship and shared with your partner.
Therapy aims to find the healthiest outcome for both of you. Sometimes, that does mean the end of the relationship. If you and your partner come to this decision, your therapist can help you both get to a healthy place and find a sense of satisfaction and resolution. However, you may be pleasantly surprised how beneficial it is to have a non-biased person who is rooting for both of you!
