  • After you have completed about three sessions, ask yourself the following questions:
  • Do I feel comfortable with my therapist?
  • Can I be honest and open with my therapist?
  • Is he or she sensitive to my concerns and questions?
  • Am I confident in their ability to help me with my concerns?
  • After answering these questions, you'll have a good understanding of the direction you need to go.
Most of the time, people feel connected with their therapist. There are times, however, when it does not feel like a good fit. Although it may feel hard, speaking directly with your therapist and letting them know you want to change therapists is best. Therapists do not get angry or take it personally.

They want you to receive the best care you can, which generally means discovering what needs are not being met in your current therapy sessions. The therapist you are seeing wants to help you find the best therapist.

Your therapist will work with you to proceed through the therapy process with care. While you will briefly relive the experience, therapy can also help you release it.
