Counseling ABQ

Individual Therapy

Counselors use many different types of therapy to help a client, or they may combine parts of various forms of therapy for you to receive the most effective treatment. No one type of individual counseling is superior to another; what matters most is that you feel comfortable with your counselor so you can effectively express your concerns and receive the care you need.

Your counselor will help you explore your feelings, thoughts, experiences, and habits to gain a better understanding of yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Counseling
At times, life can be challenging for all of us. Sometimes, you will face these difficulties alone, but it's a bonus, and you will probably feel better sooner if you seek extra support. Therapy is for people who are aware they need support. If that's you, you are taking responsibility by accepting where you're in life and committing to change the situation by seeking therapy. Active participation in therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support.
A therapist will complete an "intake" with you. She will ask about your history, current situation, and what you hope to gain from counseling. With the information she receives, she will match you with a therapist most suited to your needs. If you have looked at our therapists (link here) and have a preference for someone you think you would be comfortable with, let the therapist doing the intake know. She will discuss this option with you and check this counselor's availability.
In the following sessions, you will work with your therapist and identify specifically how you would like to see your life improve and how you need to collaborate to be successful. Then, the work begins as you talk through your current and past distress and symptoms and steps you can take to decrease these unpleasant feelings.
Therapy sessions are about 45-50 minutes. People typically meet every week.
